Submit short & longform fiction at no cost to yourself to be featured on our website! All selected works will be published under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license, which allows the work to be re-used and re-shared, so long as attribution is provided to the creator, the work is not used for commercial purposes, and no changes are made to the original work. All work will be published through R.O. Shipman and be made freely avaliable to read on the "BOOKS" section of our site.

►SUBMIT TO THE R.O. SHIPMAN PRIZE

The R.O.Shipman Book Prize is open to all Boston University undergraduate and graduate students. It is FREE to enter with a prize of $500. The winning work will be published under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license on our website. A CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license allows the work to be re-used and re-shared, so long as attribution is provided to the creator, the work is not used for commercial purposes, and no changes are made to the original work. All work must be unpublished, original, and written by one author. Find guidelines and terms & conditions below.

Book Prize Guidelines:

+ The contest is free to enter

+ Work must be original and previously unpublished

+ Work must be between 35,000 and 150,000 words

+ Submit as a double-spaced PDF with a title page listing the title, your name and contact information, the genre, and the word count

+ A second document containing a short summary of the book (200-1000 words) is encouraged but not required

Book Prize Terms & Conditions:

1. Submissions are open from January 1st 2023 to August 1st 2024, by 11:59pm EST. All submissions must be submitted by the deadline to be considered.

2. Entries are welcome from any undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled at Boston University.

3. Must be 18 or over to submit.

4. Entries must be submitted via the online form found at https://roshipman.com/submit.

5. Entries should be submitted in a simple, 12pt font (Times New Roman, Garamond...), justified left, and double spaced.

6. Entries should be submitted in PDF format.

7. The submission should start with the title of the manuscript, followed by a table of contents, and then the work.

8. No revisions will be accepted once the manuscript is uploaded. If selected for publication, revisions will be allowed.

9. Entries will be deemed ineligible if they are under contract to another publisher or organization.

10. Previously published, prize-winning, or broadcasted manuscripts will not be accepted. (Previous online appearances constitute prior publication).

11. Entries must be original works written by an individual author.

12. Only one submission per author.

13. Entries must not infringe upon anyone’s copyright.

14. Entries that are deemed to be works of plagiarism will be disqualified.

15. Any work promoting racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any other hateful rhetoric will be disqualified.

16. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, however, please notify R.O. Shipman Publishing immediately if your manuscript is accepted somewhere else.

17. By submitting your manuscript, you declare that the work entered in the 2024 R.O.Shipman Book Contest is your own work and has not been previously published, broadcasted, or awarded anywhere at any time. You acknowledge that you have read all the terms and conditions and agree to abide by them.
